Han Dynasty Medicine Mask (1200-0860)
The Han Dynasty Jade Medicine Mask, which is made of a bronze-colored stoneware, emulates a famed jade carving and sits atop a metal stand in a black finish. During the bygone era for which it is named, a mask like this would be placed on the chest of doctors and healers during medical treatments because it was thought to ward off evil spirits. The rich brown sculpture is carved on the front and the back.
